I stand firmly with Gateshead’s Jewish community, one of the most established Orthodox Jewish communities in Britain, with a proud history stretching back over a century. But supporting our Jewish neighbours and standing up for Palestinian rights are not mutually exclusive. I believe firmly in a two-state solution, with Israel and Palestine living side by side in peace, security and dignity.

On 4 October 2026 the Green Party of England and Wales passed a motion declaring that "Zionism is racism". It brands as racism the belief, held by around nine in ten British Jews, that the Jewish people have the right to a homeland of their own, and binds the party to treat that belief "as any other form of racism".
