Much of the British left now sends Jewish people the same message: you can be Jewish in this country, but you cannot be a Zionist. Zionism is simply the belief that the Jewish people have the right to a state of their own in their ancestral homeland, a shield to ensure the Holocaust can never happen again. As someone born in Bangladesh, a nation that won its own freedom in 1971, I see in Israel the same truth: an oppressed people can stand up, survive and build a home of their own. Zionism is not a dirty word. I am a proud Zionist, and I support this motion.

What is the Green Party's "Zionism is Racism" motion?
On 4 October 2026 the Green Party of England and Wales passed a motion declaring that "Zionism is racism". It brands as racism the belief, held by around nine in ten British Jews, that the Jewish people have the right to a homeland of their own, and binds the party to treat that belief "as any other form of racism".
