On 4 October 2026 the Green Party of England and Wales declared that Zionism is racism, in Motion A105. Councillor Peter Thomson has taken no public position on it: their name is not in the motion's printed lists of supporters, they have not signed the councillors' pledge against it, and they have not left the party over it.
Zionism is not racism. It is the belief that Jews have a right to a homeland in their ancestral land, held by around nine in ten British Jews. A councillor whose party has declared that belief racism owes the Jewish residents of Elswick ward, Newcastle upon Tyne an answer: do they support the motion, will they call publicly for it to be reversed, and will they resign if the party keeps it?
